Search mark

Search for a mark by node ID, mark name or geodetic code, or mark ID.

You can search for a mark in Web Search by:

  • Node ID
  • Mark name (or Geodetic mark code)
  • Mark ID

Search mark by Node ID

Enter the Node ID into the search field. To view the results, either:

  • select the blue dropdown when it appears
  • press Enter on your keyboard.

When you search a mark by Node ID, the results display all marks with the same Node ID.

The search results for Node ID show the following for each mark listed:

  • Node ID
  • Mark ID
  • Code (geodetic marks)
  • Mark Name
  • Mark Status

a. Left-click the Node ID to view mark details for the mark, such as coordinates, referenced surveys, or physical state.

b. Select Locate spatial item to locate the mark on the map.

c. Select Add to product list to add the mark to your product list. 

A mark with status of Decommissoned or Pending will appear in your search results, but will be greyed out so you cannot view details, locate mark, or add it to the product list.

Search mark by Mark name 

Enter the Mark name into the search field. To view the results, either:

  • left-click the Search icon at the right hand end of the search box
  • press Enter on your keyboard.

You can enter a Geodetic code into this field instead of a mark name (for example BDW4). 

The search results for Mark name show the following for each mark listed:

  • Node ID
  • Mark ID
  • Code (geodetic marks)
  • Mark Name
  • Mark Status

a. Left-click the Node ID to view mark details for the mark, such as coordinates, referenced surveys, or physical state.

b. Select Locate spatial item to locate the mark on the map.

c. Select Add to product list to add the mark to your product list. 

Search mark by Mark name using wildcards 

You can use wildcards when searching for a mark by Mark name. An Asterisk (*) is used to represent any number of missing characters in your search. You can then use filters to refine the results, if needed.

To search using a wildcard:

  1. Enter at least 2 characters of the mark name into the search field.
  2. Enter an Asterisk (*) to represent the remaining missing characters.
  3. Left-click the Search icon or press Enter on your keyboard to view the results.

In this example, searching for MA VIII DP 5* returns 120 results.

You can use the search filters to refine the results. You can filter by:

  • Coordinate system  
  • Order
  • Mark type
  • Land district

Use as many of these filters as you need to narrow your search results.

To filter the results, left-click the filter to open the drop-down menu. Select the value(s) you want to filter your search by. You can either:

  • type the required value, then left-click on the result to select it.
  • use the scroll bar or your mouse wheel to find the required value, then left-click on the value to select it. 

For filter type Order, you can select multiple values in the filter. Select the check-box next to each value you require, or choose All.

Once you have selected your filters, left-click Apply filters to refine your search.

A mark with status of Decommissoned or Pending will still appear in your search results, but will be greyed out so you cannot view details, locate mark, or add it to the product list.

Search mark by Mark ID

Enter the Mark ID into the search field and either:

  • select the blue dropdown when it appears
  • press Enter on your keyboard.

As Mark ID is unique to 1 mark, when you search a commissioned mark by Mark ID, it will automatically locate the mark on the map. The summary panel will display, where you can view mark details for the mark, such as coordinates, referenced surveys, or physical state.  

Select Add to product list to add the mark to your product list.

Error when searching for decommissoned or pending marks:

Search by mark ID only works for marks with a status of Commissioned. If you search a Decommissioned or Pending mark by mark ID, you will get an error message:

Locate a mark from the product list

Once you have added a mark to the product list, from the product list you can:

  • locate the mark on the map
  • view its details on summary panel.

Left-click the 3 dots to the right of the mark to view these options in the product list.
