Layout plan sheets

Layout Plan Sheets allows you to lay out your diagrams, make edits and add user-added labels and lines, preview layout pages, and generate your title and survey plans.

Warning:

Having the same dataset open in two browser windows or tabs at one time is likely to create data loss issues.

To prevent this happening:

  • ensure you exit Plan Generation before undertaking Capture edits
  • only access Plan Generation from Capture (the Plan Generation icon in the Workflow control panel).

Overview of Layout Plan Sheets

Layout sheets for Plan Generation display in Layout Plan Sheets. Landonline generates all system-defined and user-defined diagrams when you open the Layout Plan Sheets screen. The length of time it takes to open this screen depends on the number of diagrams defined and their complexity.

Any long vectors identified in the defined diagrams will display as truncated in the Layout Plan Sheets.

In Layout Plan Sheets you can:

  • lay out diagrams on the Title and Survey sheets
  • add, edit, or delete user-added labels for a diagram
  • add, edit, or delete user-added lines for a diagram
  • add new pages to a layout sheet
  • preview the Title and Survey Sheets
  • generate plans for the survey.

There are 2 layout sheets:

  • Title sheet – displays the System Generated Primary diagram on page 1. If parcels, boundary lines or boundary marks have been captured as part of the survey, this sheet displays by default when you first open Layout plan sheets.
  • Survey sheet – displays the System Generated Survey diagram on page 1.

You can then add the System Generated Non Primary diagram, your user-defined diagrams, and extra pages as needed. You can also move the System Generated Survey and Primary diagrams to another page of the Survey Sheet or Title Sheet if required.

Change layout sheet view

The current sheet view is displayed at the top left of the page.

  1. Left-click on Change sheet view at the bottom left corner of your screen to switch between Title and Survey sheets.

To return to Maintain Diagram Layers or Label Preferences, either switch mode to Define Diagrams or return to the Landing Page.

While you are in Plan Generation, if you leave Layout Plan Sheets and switch between Define Diagrams, Maintain Diagram Layers, Label Preferences, or the Plan Generation Landing page, when you return to Layout Plan Sheets it will display the page you were on previously.

If you return to Survey Capture, when you re-open Plan Generation, Layout Plan Sheets will default back to Title sheet diagrams page 1.

Page control panel

When you add a diagram to a page of a layout sheet, you place it in an available position on the page. You can add new pages to either layout sheet where there is not enough space to add your diagram.

You use the Page control panel to:

The diagrams you can add to the layout sheet display in a dark grey font, and can be selected 1 at a time by left-clicking on their name.

Diagrams that have already been added to a layout page:

  • display pale grey in the list and are un-selectable
  • have a page number, for example T1, T2, S1, which you can left-click to display that page
  • have a Remove diagram icon to remove the diagram from the layout page.

image highlighting page number T2 next to the diagram name in the diagrams panel.

Notes on adding diagrams:

You don’t have to add all user-defined diagrams to layout sheets, but only the diagrams added to layout sheets will be included in the CSD Plan. Each diagram can only be added once.

You should only exclude a system generated diagram from a layout sheet if:

  • you decided it was not appropriate when defining diagrams in the spatial window, and
  • you defined a user-defined diagram to replace it, and
  • you added the user-defined diagram to the layout sheet in its place.

If you do replace a system generated diagram your survey will show a warning in pre-validation, but you can explain this in the survey report.

Add a diagram to the layout sheet

  1. Navigate to the page you want to add your diagram to, using the page control panel. Add a new page if necessary.
    See Page control panel
  2. To add a diagram, either:
    1. Hover your mouse cursor over the available diagram in the Diagrams panel that you want to add to the page. The Insert diagram icon will appear to the right of the diagram name.

Hide an object on the layout page

To make an object not display on the layout sheets you must first make it hidden. For example, when a bearing is replicated and overlaps, you can hide one or more of these bearings to show only one bearing along a line.

Not all objects can be hidden on the layout sheets, for example Primary parcel boundary lines on the Title sheet, or user-defined diagram labels.

1. Choose a Selection tool to select the object you want to hide.

Objects can be selected using the following tools:

image of the selection tools on the layout plan sheets toolbar. They are labelled a-d.

a. Generic Select – any object, excluding diagrams.
b. Select Labels – mark names, parcel appellations/areas, dimensions, user-added text.
c. Select Coordinates – mark symbols, end points of lines.
d. Select Lines – vectors, lines, abuttals, RT lines, user-added lines.

You cannot multi-select objects when using the Generic Select tool.

2. Select the object and open the options panel.

Objects you can select with the chosen tool appear blue when you hover your cursor over them.

Drag to select will select:

  • any coordinates or labels that are touching the rectangle
  • lines only if they are wholly enclosed within the rectangle.

You can only select multiple objects of the same type, for example multiple labels, not multiple labels and lines.

Once selected, the object and any associated features are highlighted pink. If you select a:

  • Label – any associated object is also highlighted. For example, selecting a bearing label also highlights the line.
  • Coordinate – the mark name is also highlighted.
  • Line – the bearing and distance, and arc radius if line is an arc, are also highlighted. For irregular lines, the legal or physical description is also highlighted.

This associated feature will not be hidden when you hide the selected object.

The object menu for the object has different options available depending on the type of object selected.

3. Select Hide.

Select Hide from the object menu. All selected objects that can be hidden either:

  • change to grey on the layout sheet if View hidden objects is set to On
  • disappear from the page if View hidden objects is set to Off.

Hidden features will not display when you preview the page, and are not included in the compiled plans.

image highlighting the Generic Select and Select Coordinate icons in the toolbar.
  2. Select the coordinate (mark symbol) and drag it to the required location. The connected vectors move accordingly.
  3. To remove the distortion, if required, right-click to select the coordinate and choose Original location from the menu. The coordinate and connected vectors will return to their original position.

When distorting a diagram you must ensure the diagram and its vectors remain within the borders of the layout page.

Add labels and lines to layout sheets

To clarify details on a diagram on a page of a layout sheet, you can add annotations in the form of a user-added label. You can also add lines for clarification, for example to draw abuttals or to show the direction a stream flows.

If a user-defined diagram was not defined wholly within the system generated diagram, the label will not show in the system generated diagram when laid out. You can add a user-added label to the diagram for clarity.

Add label

To clarify details in a diagram on a layout sheet page, you can add text in the form of a label. The label is added as the default font and size. You can change these defaults in Label preferences.

Once you have added your label, you can:

  • edit the text
  • change the font style and size
  • rotate or move the label
  • add a border.

See Label properties
and Label menu.

All user-added labels display as italics.

To add a label:

  1. Select the Add label tool.
  2. Left-click to select the location for the label - a text box will appear.
