Map control toolbar

Use the map control toolbar to zoom in and out, set display thresholds, change selection mode, extract survey data, use Spatial layer controls and change Basemap options.

Zoom in and zoom out

Select + at the top of the toolbar to zoom in. This enlarges the scale of the map by one step based on the current centre point.

Select – to zoom outThis reduces the scale of the map by one step.

You can use your mouse wheel to zoom in or zoom out multiple steps at once

Set the data display threshold

When you increase the area shown on the map, the amount of data displayed is automatically reduced to avoid clutter.

The Data display threshold panel provides the following  options to turn data on:

  • Small – for urban areas. This is the default setting
  • Medium – for rural areas
  • Large – for rural areas with very large land parcels.

Data display threshold – Small

Select the button to the left of Small for urban areas.

If you zoom the map out beyond the Small data threshold, the map reverts to the Basemap view. Select the Medium or Large display threshold options to view map data beyond this scale.

Data Display Threshold – Medium

Select the button to the left of Medium for rural areas.

If the map is zoomed out beyond the Medium data threshold, the map reverts to the Basemap view. Select the Large data threshold for larger scales.

Data Display Threshold – Large

To view map data beyond a scale of 1:50,000, select Large.

Beyond that scale the map reverts to the Basemap view. This is to aid performance of the spatial map.

Change selection mode

Use the selection mode tool to switch between standard selection mode and draw to multi-select mode.

Extract survey data

The survey data extraction tool lets you extract survey data from Landonline as an XML file. You can choose between selecting an area of interest, or add specific survey plans to extract data from.

For details on how to extract survey data, see:

Survey data extraction into a LandXML file

Spatial Layer Control

Layer control in the toolbar lets you display or hide:

  • available data layers
  • text labels for each layer.

The list of available layers is dynamic. We’ll add more layers as development continues.

Add layers you want to view by selecting the box next to the layer.

To select all layers within a group, select the box to the left of the group’s name.

Hide or Delete Layers

You can hide or delete layers you have turned on. To see the Hide layer and Delete layer icons, hover over the layer name in the Current tab.

Hide layers by selecting the Hide layer icon (the eye) in the Current tab.

Remove layers from the Current layers list by either de-selecting them in the All layers tab, or by selecting the Delete layer icon (the rubbish bin) in the Current tab.

Labels

Select the Current tab in the Layer control panel to view the selected layers and their label controls.

Layer presets and default view

You can save your personalised layer settings as the default view, so that these settings are in place each time you open Web Search.

Add the layers and labels you want to include, then in the Current tab select Save as default view.

To override your current layer selection to a saved setting, select Layer presets in the All tab.

You can choose from:

  • your saved default view
  • Web Search ‘basic’ setting.

Basemap settings

When you open the spatial display, you’ll see the basemap. This is displayed first to provide context.

There are 3 views you can use for the basemap:

  • Topographic View. This is the default
  • Satellite View
  • Basemap off.

Topographic View

Topographic View includes building outlines, road names and other topographic features. It’s visible under the data layers.

Satellite View

Satellite View adds aerial photography to the map view. It’s visible under the data layers.

Basemap off

To reset to a blank background, select Basemap off. You will still see any data layers you have selected.

Other useful map settings – auto-locate, selection precision, clustering, decluttering, and numerical map scale

In the Map Settings panel you can turn on and off the following functions:

  • auto-location of items in the spatial display
  • precise selection of spatial items
  • clustering of survey plan references
  • decluttering of overlapping addresses
  • a numerical map scale.

Use the map settings

Select the slider button at the left of an option to turn it on or off.

The Auto-locate and Cluster survey plan references functions are on by default when you first log in to Web Search. If you make changes here, they will be auto-saved so you don’t have to change them next time you log in.

screenshot of map settings panel. The on/off button next to Declutter street addresses is highlighted. It is currently turned off.

Auto-locate - the associated spatial item is automatically located when searching or clicking a link in the summary panel.

Enhance selection precision - the click radius is reduced, allowing for more precise selection of spatial items.

Cluster survey plan references - survey plan references close to each other are grouped into clusters, reducing visual clutter.

Declutter street addresses - addresses are hidden when they overlap, reducing visual clutter.

Show numerical map scale - allows manual entry of the map scale to control the current zoom level.

Auto-locate

When Auto-locate is on, spatial objects such as parcels and street addresses will appear in the map when you search for them. This is the default setting.

When Auto-locate is off, the map display will not reset to show the searched items.

Not all objects are spatially defined in Landonline. If you search an item that is not spatially defined, a message will appear in the top right corner of the spatial screen advising This feature does not have a spatial item to display

Screenshot of warning message stating "this feature does not have a spatial item to display".

You can still view the details page for these items.

Enhance selection precision

When Enhance selection precison is off, when you click to select where multiple objects are nearby, you are more likely to be asked to choose from a list of items.

screenshot of Web Search spatial display with map settings open. Enhance selection precision turned off and highlighted. The cursor has attempted to select a survey reference, but has been given a choice of three options.

When Enhance selection precision is on, the click radius (cursor selection area) is reduced, meaning you can more precisely select a spatial item.

screenshot of Web Search spatial display with map settings open. Enhance selection precision is turned on and highlighted. The cursor is able to select a single survey reference.

You may still get a list of items to choose from for items that are very close together.

Cluster survey plan references

When Cluster survey plan references is off, all survey plan references are visible.

screenshot of Web Search spatial display with map settings open.Cluster survey references is turned off. The spatial display is full of survey references.

When the Clustering system is on, survey plan references that are close to each other are grouped into clusters to make the view less cluttered.

screenshot of Web Search spatial display with map settings open. Cluster survey references is turned on. The survey references in the spatial dispaly are clustered into groups and the spatial dispaly is uncluttered.

As you zoom in, the clustered survey references will separate once they have space to display clearly.

Declutter street addresses

When Declutter street addresses is off, all street addresses are visible.

screenshot of Web Search spatial display with map settings open. Declutter street addresses is turned off. Street addresses in the spatial dispaly are overlapping and difficult to read.

When Declutter street addresses is on, street addresses that overlap are hidden.

screenshot of Web Search spatial display with map settings open. Declutter street addresses is turned on. not all street addresses are visible but all are esay to read.

As you zoom in, the hidden addresses will appear once they have space to display clearly.

Show numerical map scale

When Show numerical map scale is on, a small panel in the bottom right corner of the map shows the map scale as a representative fraction, for example 1: 1,000.

You can edit this to increase or decrease the amount of data visible in the map.
