What is survey pre-validation?
Survey pre-validation is a valuable quality assessment tool that helps you to examine your Cadastral Survey Dataset (CSD) at any stage during survey capture. It checks that your CSD complies with many of the Cadastral Survey Rules 2021 and the Standard for lodgement of cadastral survey datasets LINZS70000. Pre-validation uses the same automated business rules that we use when processing surveys for approval.
Pre-validation tests a survey in 2 ways:
- Providing an internal integrity assessment of the survey
- Identifying potential inconsistencies between the survey and Landonline data.
Why use survey pre-validation?
Avoid time-consuming and costly requisitions by using the Landonline pre-validation process to identify potential issues in your CSD.
If a survey report is required for a CSD, Lodgement Standard 7 states that the report must include an assessment, where they are material to the survey, of the actions taken to address the C-rule conflicts and warning messages, and all adjustment report test failures and warning messages.
When to run pre-validation in the survey process
The following are some of the stages in the survey that it might be valuable to run pre-validation:
- after your LandXML import
- after Survey Capture
- after making changes in Survey Capture
- before opening Plan Generation
- before submitting your survey to Toitū Te Whenua LINZ.
What to check in the pre-validation report?
You’ll gain the greatest benefit from the process by reviewing all the results – not just the rule failures – and actioning all identified issues before submitting your survey.
The Lodgement Standard requires your survey report to include an assessment of the actions you took to address:
- Warnings (which you can see under the Tests tab), and
- all adjustment report test failures and warning messages (which you can see under the Adjustments tab).
Benefits of running pre-validation before opening Plan Generation
An early check of the pre-validation report, with particular attention on the 2 adjustment reports, will help you identify capture errors prior to Plan Generation, resulting in less rework.
Many Plan Generation issues can be avoided by resolving pre-validation reported items before opening Plan Generation. In particular, a thorough review of:
- C rule warnings
- individual test failures in the adjustment reports
- SEUW greater than 1 in the adjustment reports
can help you to identify issues that will cause blockers for proceeding with Plan Generation such as:
- geometry errors being reported as Plan Generation is opened,
- error 47 messages opening the Layout Sheets,
- diagrams being distorted when the Layout Sheets have opened.
