You will find differences in the look and feel, navigation and functionality of New Landonline, and additional functionality, features and improvements will continue to be added.
The New Landonline and Legacy Landonline systems are fully compatible, meaning you can access the same Survey in either system. Functionality not yet available for New Landonline will continue to be completed in Legacy Landonline.
The following information summarises the key differences between the two systems.
Getting started
Logging in
- Legacy Landonline displays your Workspace with an expandable work tree.
- New Landonline displays My Work page, with options to find the survey you are working on, or to create a new survey.
Firms you are associated with
- Legacy Landonline, at log in, requires you to select the firm you are associated with from a dropdown list of these firms.
- New Landonline defaults to the last firm you were logged in under. If you are associated with multiple firms, you can change the firm you are associated with from the Menu on the My Work page.
Saving your work
- Legacy Landonline requires you to 'click the tick' to save your work as you go.
- New Landonline autosaves your work.
Editing data in a field
- Legacy Landonline requires you to 'right click' to select and edit in a field.
- New Landonline requires you to 'double left click'. This frees up the 'right click' for further functionality.
Keyboard navigation
- In Legacy Landonline you use enter to move along a row.
- In New Landonline you use the tab or arrow keys. Note: You can also navigate through fields using just your keyboard in new Landonline.
Create, delete or withdraw a survey
Fields required
- Legacy Landonline needs at least 7 fields to be completed before a dataset can be created.
- New Landonline only requires 3-5 fields for the creation of a new survey dataset: firm, a surveyor’s reference, the survey purpose and the land district.
Assigning users
- Legacy Landonline requires the user to assign Primary Contact and Signing Surveyor roles as 2 fields to the user who creates the dataset, prior to as part of the dataset creation.
- New Landonline automatically assigns the Primary Contact and Signing Surveyor roles to the user who creates the dataset.
Notification of CSD reference (pre-allocation notice)
- In Legacy Landonline, when you create a new survey, you will receive a notification of the CSD reference for the dataset.
- In New Landonline when you create a new survey, you won't receive a notification of the CSD reference for the dataset. This functionality is coming.
Withdraw a dataset
- In Legacy Landonline there is a 'withdraw dataset button' for a surveyor to have the dataset returned after it has been submitted and prior to it being approved.
- In New Landonline, send a Return a survey dataset request to have the survey withdrawn, or exit the survey and go to Legacy Landonline to complete the withdrawal request.
Capture a dataset
Manually capturing a dataset
- In Legacy Landonline you can search the spatial view to locate the dataset to capture.
- In New Landonline you need to scroll through the spatial view to find the location of the dataset to include in your survey. You cannot search and locate an existing appellation, plan reference, node or mark ID to get to the area being surveyed. You can search for and add an existing parcel via the Existing parcels panel using parcel appellation or parcel ID. Once the existing parcel has been added, the user can exit the survey and go back to the My Work page. When the dataset is opened again, the spatial view will be centred on the existing parcel.
Importing a LandXML file
- In Legacy Landonline you need to locate the LandXML file on your computer to open and import it.
- In New Landonline you can open and import the LandXML file from almost any location. You can also drag and drop the LandXML file into the application, including from an email.
Inspect and adopt
- Legacy Landonline allowed surveyors to Select and Adopt survey details.
- New Landonline uses the Inspect and Adopt tool to navigate the spatial view, find details about existing features, and adopt those existing features into the dataset.
Enable users
Locating users
- In Legacy Landonline, use the External Search screen to search for a user or specific firm.
- In New Landonline, use the Enable Users panel, accessed in the left-hand workflow control bar, to identify the users in your firm and to search for external users you can assign to a survey.
Primary Contact and Signing Surveyor roles
- Legacy Landonline requires the Primary Contact and Signing Surveyor roles be assigned as part of creating the survey.
- New Landonline automatically assigns the Primary Contact and Signing Surveyor roles to the user who creates the survey.
Contractors
- In Legacy Landonline, contractors associated with a Firm can only access the work they are enabled on, and summary information (not captured data) of all the Firm's other surveys.
- In New Landonline, contractors can view all surveys of that Firm (read-only). This includes work (including captured data) they are not assigned to as an enabled user. Instead of adding them as contractors, you can enable them as external users to the appropriate datasets.
Pre-validate
Business rules
- In Legacy Landonline, pre-validation of a survey can only be run on part of the business rules (relevant to the completed work).
- In New Landonline, pre-validation of a survey can be run against all the business rules.
Batch process
- In Legacy Landonline, pre-validation of a survey can be completed by batch process, and while this is being processed you should not work on that survey.
- In New Landonline, batch processing is not required, as pre-validation of a survey runs against all the business rules. You can continue to work on a different aspect of the survey while you wait for the pre-validation process to complete.
Survey details
Adding users
- In Legacy Landonline, assigning users is included in the Survey information tab.
- In New Landonline, managing users is included in the Enabling Users panel.
RT references
- In Legacy Landonline, RT references are allocated in the Survey information tab.
- In New Landonline, RT references are included in the New Parcels panel.
Legal Firm/Agent
- In Legacy Landonline, Legal firms and Agents can be assigned in the Survey information tab. This alerts solicitors when a TA package has been signed and the survey is approved.
- In New Landonline, you need to contact the Legal firms and Agents directly to let the solicitors know when a TA package has been signed and the survey is approved.
Marks
Refreshing to see changes
- In Legacy Landonline, you need to use the refresh option to update the map and include changes.
- New Landonline auto refreshes the map as you make changes. You can use the regenerate button to force a full re-fresh.
Edit a mark in spatial view
- In Legacy Landonline you have the option to edit a mark from the spatial view using the right click mouse button.
- In New Landonline this function isn’t available yet.
Capturing geodetic marks
- In Legacy Landonline, you are not able to edit geodetic marks.
- New Landonline allows details of geodetic marks to be editable.
Linking disturbed or renewed marks
- In Legacy Landonline the process for linking disturbed and renewed marks is quite complex.
- In New Landonline the process for linking disturbed and renewed marks is simpler and these linked marks are depicted in the spatial view with red (disturbed marks) and green (renewed marks) boxes.
Automatic Refresh
- In Legacy Landonline you can select whether automatic refresh is active and, if it is turned off, you can determine when the survey and spatial view will refresh.
- In New Landonline the automatic refresh option is active and Landonline recalculates the coordinates and geometry and refreshes the Spatial Display. This displays the new survey relative to the position of the existing Landonline mark.
Navigating the fields in the Marks panel
- In Legacy Landonline you use the enter key to move along the row in the panel.
- in New Landonline you use the tab or arrow keys to move along the row in a panel.
Linking to existing marks using mark ID or mark name
- In Legacy Landonline, you can search for existing marks using the mark ID or mark name.
- In New Landonline, there is currently no option to search for an existing mark by mark ID or mark name.
Vectors
Editing marks information
- In Legacy Landonline, all the marks information can be edited in the Vector Capture screen.

Printing vector summary information
- In Legacy Landonline, you can print a summary information report in the Vector Capture screen.
- In New Landonline, you can’t print a summary information report from the Vectors panel. Return to Legacy Landonline to print a summary report in the Vector Capture screen, or to generate and print the plans.
Reversing bearing vector between two marks
- In Legacy Landonline, you can use a tick box to reverse the bearing vector between two marks.
- In New Landonline, you will need to manually edit the bearings by 180 degrees or swap the From and To ends.
Excluding vectors
- In Legacy Landonline there is a check box in the vectors panel to exclude non-boundary vectors from displaying in plan generation.
- New Landonline does not include this functionality.
Vector error checking
- In Legacy Landonline, you can determine gross errors in vector capture using unadjusted coordinates, with an Error checking button in the Vector Capture screen or from spatial display.
- New Landonline does not include this functionality.
