This paper updated Cabinet on the Minister for Land Information’s priorities in the Land Information portfolio, as well as progress of two significant projects – SouthPAN and STEP.

The functions in the Land Information portfolio are broad, and the portfolio is digital and data driven. Four regulatory regimes form the basis of the Land Information portfolio: overseas investment, Crown land, geographic and property information, and property rights.

SouthPAN is a satellite-based augmentation system that will improve the accuracy and reliability of positioning and navigation services to as little as 10 centimetres in New Zealand and Australia.

STEP is the modernisation of the Landonline property system, which underpins private property rights in New Zealand. Outdated technology is being replaced to ensure Landonline remains world-class and delivers a modern, secure, and efficient system for New Zealanders.
