Background | The Applicant is a New Zealand-incorporated grower, distributer, marketer and exporter of a variety of fresh produce including apples. The Applicant’s wholly owned subsidiary, ENZAFruit New Zealand International Limited, will acquire the lease. The Applicant will redevelop the land, which is currently planted in older varieties of apples and pears, and will plant and grow high value Envy or Joli apples using the 2D planting system. The main benefits to New Zealand are likely to include substantial economic benefit through additional jobs, increased export receipts, and increased capital expenditure of $8.4 million. Consent was granted as the Applicant met the investor test criterion and the benefit likely to occur as a result of the investment will result in benefit to New Zealand. |
