Background

The Applicant is the New Zealand operating entity of Inghams Group, the largest poultry producer in New Zealand and Australia.

The Applicant is acquiring leasehold interests in two poultry farm properties currently owned and operated by Bromley Park Hatcheries Limited. The acquisition of the business on the land required Commerce Commission approval which has been granted.

The two farms are an important part of the supply chain of day old chicks for the Applicant’s current business, and the New Zealand chicken meat industry more generally.

The Applicant intends to continue to operate and improve the poultry business carried out on the Land. The Applicant intends to invest approximately $7 million to future-proof the business. 
Consent was granted consent as the Applicant has met the investor test criterion and that the benefit likely to occur as a result of the Investment would result in benefit to New Zealand.
