Background

The Applicant is subsidiary of Craigmore Permanent Crop LP, a New Zealand limited partnership established as part of the Craigmore Sustainables Management Group.

The Applicant has been granted consent to acquire the Land in order to establish an apple orchard. It intends to convert the Land as follows:

  • 35 hectares for planting area; and
  • 15 hectares for associated orchard infrastructure.

The remaining 20-hectare portion of the Land is considered higher risk for orchard development. The Applicant intends to apply for a discharge consent for this remaining portion, and if consent is obtained, there is a potential to exceed the 35-hectare planting area. Otherwise, the Applicant will use this remaining portion either to farm beef and sheep as currently used, or to plant indigenous plant species.

The investment is likely to result in new permanent jobs, increased export receipts, additional investment for development purposes, and advancement of the government's economic policies.

The Ministers are satisfied that the benefit to New Zealand will be substantial and identifiable and that the investor test has been met.
