Decision

Granted

What the decision relates to

Forming tracks

Duration of consent

5 years for the initial work with ongoing maintenance rights

Reasons for decision

The Commissioner of Crown Lands has determined that granting consent to upgrade the existing tracks and create the new crossings as requested will make it easier to use the land for farming purposes by allowing agricultural machinery access to the Bush Hut Block for proposed cultivation, and that any adverse effects on inherent values can be minimised through compliance with the conditions specified.

Conditions of decision

Consent is granted for Discretionary Pastoral Activity, subject to the following conditions:

  1. Track maintenance is contained within the current footprint where possible. Any track/crossing construction should avoid wetlands/seepages and the clearance of native scrub where possible.
  2. Hard based crossings as well as culverts may be used where crossing waterways is required. All crossings, either hard based or culverts, must allow for fish passage.
  3. That track construction is undertaken to the standards outlined in sections 4-11 of the Water and Soil Management Guidelines for the Construction of Access Tracks and Firebreaks.
  4. All machinery used in construction is thoroughly cleaned and free of weed seeds.
  5. If any metal, shingle or rock is brought to the site for infilling, it must be from a weed free source (and preferably from within the station)
  6. The new track should be sited and constructed to cause minimal disturbance to the landscape, and the natural contour.
  7. The formed tracks shall be no wider than four (4) metres.
  8. All contractors and employees of the consent holder are to be informed of the conditions of this consent and the requirement to comply with them prior to any tracking work commencing.

The Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 provides that permission to undertake the activity may still be needed under other enactments.
