Tēnā koe,
Welcome to the final Landwrap for 2024. We wish you a safe and relaxing holiday period, and look forward to 2025 – the year we officially switch off Legacy and shift fully to New Landonline.
We are currently planning the phased transition of switching off Legacy by customer group in 2025. This approach ensures that the LINZ Contact Centre can effectively support customers with any concerns during this period. We will provide more details early in 2025.

Landonline availability will close at 10pm Tuesday 24 December 2024 and will remain closed until 6am Friday 3 January 2025.

Modernising Landonline milestones for 2024
Thank you to our customers who have worked with us as we’ve been rebuilding Landonline.
We’d like to acknowledge how you’ve adapted to take on the new functionality as it’s been released – providing us with feedback along the way.
Here’s a snapshot of our key milestones over the last year…
Dealings
The programme reached a massive milestone this year, when the first bits of e-dealings functionality were turned off in Legacy Landonline. Since 24 September all dealings customers have been using New Landonline to exclusively complete their settlement day activities – certify and sign, release and submit.
Since its initial launch back in November 2021, New Landonline Dealings predominantly supported end-to-end sale and purchase and refinancing transactions. This year has seen the introduction of many other transaction types, including dealing with estate property, subdivisions and many other supporting instruments such as caveats, variation of mortgage, change or correction of name and notices of claim.
Survey
It's been another big year for Landonline - Survey users, we have seen Sign and Submit, My Messages, Requests and Notices turned off in Legacy Landonline and the majority of Spatial Search now available in Web Search.
The Plan Generation pilot is about to kick off with approx. 100 Surveyors using New Landonline to prepare and compile their plans, ensuring everything is working as expected.
Once Plan Generation has been completed it will be available in New Landonline for all Surveyors in 2025.
Web Search
This year, Web Search has achieved significant milestones as we released a large suite of spatial functionality including Map Control Toolbar to give users more control over the map.
Users can now tailor their map views with over 40 available layers, including parcels, vectors, marks, street addresses and more. The new survey data extraction feature also enables users to export survey data directly into LandXML files.
As of July 2024, Web Search displays pending dealing and lodged plans associated with titles and surveys. Web Search has also expanded its search functionalities to include parcel search by appellation/legal description and supporting documents search.
We are committed to continue enhancing user experience and functionality in 2025.
TA Certification
Another significant programme milestone was met in October when the Territorial Authority (TA) Certifications application was released to all TA users.
The application is used by TA planners to prepare, certify and sign their 223/224 subdivisional certificates per the Resource Management Act 1991.
The response has been fantastic with over 62% of TA Certifications being signed in New Landonline within five weeks of the release.
Insights from customers who are showing 30-50+% productivity improvements in New Landonline
Customer feedback is really valuable, and we’ve been doing a deeper dive into the October New Landonline Benefits survey responses. We thought it would be interesting to learn more about what the customers who are seeing the largest productivity gains say about how the system helps them work.
Here’s a quick summary of comments received:
Dealings
Love how we can now copy and paste into e-dealing details save on mistakes
Short form tax statements are handy
Connection from web search and e-dealing to very useful
Also, it is easily approachable for doing work from any computer
Search
Simple login. Viewing information without needing to download the title is very useful
Love the spatial plan - so easy to see what's around the subject property. Love the hyperlinks for prior and new RT references. Love the list of what titles are affected by an instrument and being able to search one instantly.
The address/maps function on the side when searching is really beneficial when completing title reviews and advice
Titles searches are much clearer and easy to use
The maps' function where you can see the lot outline, lot details, street number is extremely helpful.
Survey
Survey Report is easier to write
All documents associated with the survey are readily available and can be placed on a different screen as necessary.
Graphical which is good. Can select and change groups of data simultaneously. Intuitive. Can access existing LOL data very easily and turn on/off layers
QA is easier
Easier to link parcels or marks, if you have trouble linking marks or parcels it tells you what to look for to solve the problem or you can search the error code on Landonline web page. Landonline Schedule/Memorandum is easy to use.
The small things such as the scroll to zoom and not having to change pointer to select data, the ability to work primarily in the spatial view all mean I don't have to think how to use the interface of new Landonline
Territorial Authorities
The new Landonline is fresh and up to date, the old legacy version was dated. Good to be up with the times and I like how there is a map to show the property when conducting a search so that you can be sure you have the correct title.
We hope sharing these insights might give you some inspiration to help improve your productivity too!
Viewing NZVD2016 vertical control marks in Geodetic Database
The Geodetic Database was recently updated to enable vertical control marks with NZVD2016 heights to be identified in the Map View. This is done by selecting the “NZVD2016” radio button immediately to the top-right of the map. The checkboxes immediately below the radio button can then be selected or de-selected to only show marks with the desired order(s) of NZVD2016 height.
For example, if planning a cadastral survey that will include a new height-limited boundary point defined by a reduced level, this filter may be useful to help identify Order 3V or better vertical control marks in the vicinity.
Note that local vertical datum heights are still available in the Geodetic Database. However, these have been shifted to the Historical information sub-section at the bottom-left. For example, if a mark has a height in terms of the local vertical datum Wellington 1953, this can be viewed using the WELLHT1953 heights link.
Updates of Registrar-General of Land guidelines
The Registrar-General of Land has updated the Unit Titles Act 2010 Guideline 2024 and the Identity Requirements for Paper Instruments Guideline 2018.
Clauses 10.1.1 and 10.1.3 of the Unit Titles Act 2010 Guideline 2024 have been updated in relation to existing easements and covenants. You can see the details of these changes on page 3 of the guideline.
Unit Titles Act 2010 Guideline 2024 – LINZ OP G 01310
The Identity Requirements for Paper Instruments Guideline 2018 has been updated to align the guideline with the Authority and Identity Requirements for E-Dealing Standard 2024 and the Authority and Identity Requirements for E-Dealing Guideline 2024.

New Landonline Dealings: new functionality releases
Prepare a Caveat in any mode
You can now prepare all types of Caveats in New Landonline, with the recent release of Complex and Instrument modes. In addition to preparing a standard caveat, you can now:
- deal with only part of the land
- add images, for example to include special conditions or provisions for a caveat
- use caveat type ‘Forbidding issue of title removing limitation under s207(1) Land Transfer Act 2017
- deal with a lease, mortgage or other registered interest.
Prepare a Notice of Claim
You can now prepare all Notices of Claim in New Landonline.
We’ve made it easier to affect corporate owners in New Landonline, for where there is a connection between the corporate and the spouse or partner of the Claimant. This is a key change from Legacy Landonline.
Transaction log
You’ll find a new tab on the Dealing details panel called the ‘transaction log’. This displays a record of key changes that have been made to a dealing and its instruments during the preparation of the dealing.
Change or correction of name in any mode
In addition to being able to prepare a change or correction of name for a registered owner, you can now do this for a lease, mortgage or other registered interest using Instrument mode.
A&I change to high-risk question
The high-risk question in the A&I no longer defaults to ‘no’. You will need to select the appropriate answer. If you don't answer this question, you'll get a validation error when trying to generate the A&I form.
New Landonline: Multi-select feature in Web Search
Multi-select feature is now available in Web Search.
By holding down the Ctrl key (or Command on Mac), you can now multi-select parcels, survey plan references, marks, and vectors in spatial.
Items selected are added to the bucket, from there you can trigger actions like:
- Add to survey data extraction (for survey plan references)
- Add to product list
- For parcels the ability to add related titles is also present.
Multi-select by area will be available soon.
