What is proposed?

The proposal is to alter Pench Glacier to Penck Glacier as the official name of the glacier south of Maiti-iti (peak) and Mount Maori in Snowdrift Range, approximately 50km northwest of Wānaka.

What happens next?

The Board will consider the submissions received for this proposal at its first hui in 2025. The outcome will be that either the Board itself or the Minister for Land Information will make the final decision. This page will be updated when the final decision is made.

At its hui on 15 October 2024 the Board considered this report on the proposal. The proposal is notified for two months so that the public can make submissions supporting or objecting to the proposed name.
