Part 1A of the Local Electoral Act 2001 and Schedule 6 of the Local Government Act 2002 provide for the internal division of a local authority for electoral or polling purposes.
However, such division has no effect unless a description or plan of each area has been sent to the Surveyor-General and the Surveyor-General has certified that it is sufficient to render the boundaries capable of identification.
The Surveyor-General has issued a standard to specify requirements for plans that are submitted for certification.
Plans for certification, and supporting documentation, need to be forwarded in digital format to electoral@linz.govt.nz
Include the words 'Plan for certification' and the name of the local authority in the subject line of the email.
