Kia ora koutou
Summer is nearly here and the end of the year is approaching! With people heading off on holiday, December’s Pānui and overseas investment decision summaries will be published a week early, on Thursday 19 December. January’s Pānui will be published at the end of the month as usual, on 30 January 2025.
A reminder that the New Zealand government shutdown period means that assessment days under the Overseas Investment Act stop between 25 December and 15 January.
We recommend getting in touch with the team if you have an application requiring a decision during the summer holiday period, or if your application will require a national interest assessment.
Read on for an update on our refreshed digital dashboards – a useful source for data and trends relating to overseas investment in New Zealand – and for October’s decision summaries.

Refreshed digital dashboards
The latest data on approved overseas investment consents is now available on our refreshed interactive dashboards.
Along with data on investment pathways, industries and regions, you can see information on assessment timeframes, with a new section showing the percentage of applications decided within 50% of their assessment timeframe since 1 July 2024.
This information will be regularly updated and will help track progress on the expectation set in the June 2024 Ministerial Directive Letter, that 80% of consent applications will be processed within half of the regulatory timeframes for decision.
The visual dashboards present data current up to 30 September 2024, providing a big-picture view of the decision summaries we publicly release each month. The dashboards can be filtered according to such things as decision pathways and regions, and are presented in both graph and map form.
