This report updated Cabinet in May 2023 on the progress of Toitū Te Whenua and Geoscience Australia’s joint SouthPAN satellite initiative to improve the accuracy of global positioning signals in Australia and New Zealand.
SouthPAN will improve free-to-air satellite positioning signals from 10-15 metres to as little as 10cm. It also provides integrity information for positioning, enabling certification for safety-of-life services, such as aviation.
