Rivers and valleys are set to benefit from three large-scale pest and weed projects from the Mackenzie Basin in the west to the mouth of the Opihi River in the east.

The Government, through Toitū Te Whenua’s Jobs for Nature programme is investing up to $18.4 million over four years to create jobs and help restore braided river valleys, alpine and pastoral lands in the South Island.

Staff from Toitū Te Whenua, the Department of Conservation alongside representatives from iwi, local government, pastoral leaseholders, and Te Manahuna Aoraki Limited joined the Minister for Land Information, Damien O’Connor as he announced the projects in late September.
