The Australian and New Zealand Governments are delivering on their plan to provide early services from the SouthPAN satellite-based augmentation system in 2022.

The Request for Tender (RFT) seeking a prime contractor for SouthPAN was released by Geoscience Australia in March 2020.

Geoscience Australia is seeking to separately procure satellite payload services for SouthPAN. These payload services will broadcast SouthPAN positioning data to users. More information about the tender for the provision of payload, including the ability to register interest, is now available on AusTender.

SouthPAN will provide Australians and New Zealanders with world class access to positioning services that will improve the accuracy from the current five to ten metres, down to ten centimetres on land and sea without the need for mobile or internet coverage.

The development of SouthPAN is a partnership between Geoscience Australia and Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand.

SouthPAN will be the first service of its kind in the southern hemisphere and is expected to generate $6 billion in benefits over 30 years.
