The Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying and Mapping (ICSM) and Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) are pleased to announce that SURROUND NZ Ltd will lead the development of an Australian/New Zealand 3D Cadastral Survey Data Model and Exchange (3D CSDM) programme.
The 3D CSDM work programme aims to create a widely adopted standard across Australia and New Zealand for exchanging digital cadastral survey data between the survey industry and government land administration agencies.
New Zealand Surveyor-General and ICSM representative Anselm Haanen says the appointment of SURROUND is an important step in developing a consistent model for exchanging digital cadastral survey information between the survey industry and government land administration agencies.
“We are confident that SURROUND, leading a consortium of five companies, has the right mix of skills and expertise to develop the 3D CSDM,” says Mr Haanen.
SURROUND’s Mike Hennessey says the company, on behalf of the consortium, is very proud and excited to contribute to the 3D CSDM initiative.
“The consortium recognises this is a pivotal time in the development of land administration and cadastre data systems worldwide.
”The ICSM, LINZ and the Australian jurisdictions should be commended for taking a leadership role,” Mr Hennessey says.
A crucial component of the work will be engaging with survey software suppliers. Their contribution will help ensure that their products can meet the needs of the surveyors producing the cadastral survey datasets for lodgement as well as the needs of jurisdictions, as defined by the harmonised data model.
LINZ is leading the programme in partnership with Australian Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (Victoria), the Department of Customer Service (New South Wales), Landgate (Western Australia), and the Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy (Queensland).
The programme of work has been established by the Intergovernmental Committee for Survey and Mapping (ICSM) with support from the Spatial Information Council (ANZLIC). Implementation of any new method of exchanging cadastral survey information will be up to individual jurisdictions. LINZ is planning on its implementation being part of the Rebuilding Landonline programme.
The development of the 3D CSDM programme is expected to take up to 13 months.
