Geodetic standards and factsheets

Find the standards, as well as explanatory factsheets, which define the requirements of New Zealand’s geodetic system.

These standards have been created by Toitū Te Whenua to define the elements of geodesy, such as datums projections and their related accuracy used in New Zealand (including the Ross Sea Region, Antarctica).

Standards

This standard defines the national vertical reference system: New Zealand Vertical Datum 2016 (NZVD2016)
The standard defines several map projections in terms of the Ross Sea Region Geodetic Datum 2000. These projections are used by Land Information New Zealand for topographic mapping in the Ross Sea Region of Antarctica. They can also be used by other people and organisations for the provision and display of geospatial data within the Ross Sea Region.
The purpose of this standard is to ensure that the geospatial accuracy framework (LINZS25005) is consistently applied across LINZ cadastral survey and control system datasets
This standard defines frameworks for specifying and classifying the accuracy of coordinates and the spatial relationships between them.
A national geodetic system and its associated national survey control system are fundamental components of a nation’s infrastructure.
This standard defines several map projections in terms of the New Zealand Geodetic Datum 2000. These projections can be used for the provision and display of cadastral, topographic, and hydrographic data for New Zealand, its offshore islands, and continental shelf.
This standard sets out the Surveyor-General’s requirements for the provision of a national survey control system.
The purpose of this standard is to both define the Ross Sea Region Geodetic Datum 2000 and detail the parameters that define it.

This fact sheet covers how LINZ describes the accuracy of coordinate data. It explains the terms network and local accuracy and shows how they have been implemented in LINZ to give coordinate accuracy classifications called orders.
