What was proposed?
The proposal was to alter the recorded unofficial place name The Cone to Pūāwhē for the peak at 953m on Pirongia Mountain, approximately 20km west of Te Awamutu.

At its hui on 26 April 2023 the Board considered this report on the proposal. The proposal was notified for one month so that the public could make submissions supporting or objecting to the name.
At its hui on 3 October 2023 the Board considered this report on the submissions, which is updated with the Board’s decision. Because the Board didn’t agree with the objecting submissions received for Pūāwhē, it requested the Minister for Land Information to make the final determination.
