What was proposed?
The proposal was to alter the official place name 5 Mile Creek to Herwin Creek for a small stream that flows from the south end of Richmond Range into Motupiko River, northeast of St. Arnaud.
Outcome
No change to the current official name.
The Minister for Land Information rejected the proposal on 3 December 2024. The official name of the stream remains 5 Mile Creek (official by New Zealand Gazette 27 May 2021, Notice No. 2021-ln2005)
Report
The Board considered this proposal report at its hui on 26 April 2023. The proposal was notified for one month so that the public could make submissions supporting or objecting to the name.
At its hui on 3 October 2023 the Board considered this submissions report, which is updated with the Board’s decision. Because the Board didn’t agree with the objecting submissions received, it requested the Minister for Land Information to make the final determination.
