Background | The Applicant has applied for consent under the special test relating to forestry activities set out in section 16A(4) of the Act. The Applicant is a subsidiary of a family-owned UK company. The Applicant has previously invested in New Zealand and has had forestry investments here for over 28 years. The land is already used for commercial forestry. Approximately 109.7 hectares of the land is existing forest (pinus radiata) and 5.1 hectares is unplantable. The Applicant plans to develop the remaining 39.2 hectares of recently harvested bare land by replanting tree crops on it. The land will continue to be used for forestry activities and replanted after harvest. |
