Overseas investment decision for case 201720100 - EnviroWaste Services Limited

The Applicant is a nationally integrated waste management business, which offers waste-related services to industry, council and the public through collection services, transfer stations and disposal sites throughout New Zealand.

The Applicant intends to acquire the land and continue to operate it as a quarry and clean fill site, while developing it further to include construction and demolition (C&D) recycling and vermiculture compost operations. 

The benefits to New Zealand include:

• creation of new jobs associated with C&D recycling, vermiculture and in the provision of new products or services at the Applicant’s existing transfer stations;
• a long-standing presence in the New Zealand waste management industry, including various previous investments which have been or are of benefit to New Zealand;
• added market competition through the sale of aggregate from the Applicant’s transfer stations, greater efficiency in the use of the Applicant’s transport fleet including the reduction of empty truck trips and enhanced services for C&D recycling and vermiculture composting;
• advancement of central and local government waste strategies, including through diversion of C&D waste and organic waste from landfill.
