Reasons for decision
Retaining inherent values outweighs any positive farming benefits. Inherent values included the following:
- Diverse flora including habitat for several threatened plant species including coral broom. Other threated species are also likely to be present.
- Extensive habitat supporting indigenous invertebrate and lizard species.
- Extensive wetlands on gentle summits, hill slopes and valley floors.
- Numerous watercourses draining the peneplain surface.
- Extensive snow tussock and distinctive rock tors/outcropping. The vegetation is representative of the Ecological District and has important biodiversity values.
- Extensive gentle, rolling, upland peneplain topography. These are landscapes of high value and integrity.
