Deed of Settlement
The final agreement on compensation for historical wrongs.
Landbank
Crown properties that are no longer needed are put into the Landbank where they may be used in Treaty Settlements. If properties are not used for settlement, they can be sold.
Memorandum of understanding
An agreement between two groups that outlines how they will work together.
Public Works Act
Gives the Crown the power to use private land for public needs – like schools, prisons, roads and hospitals. The Government makes these decisions and purchases on behalf of the Crown.
Royal assent
Permission or approval of the Crown. Every bill must receive Royal assent before it becomes an Act of Parliament.
The Crown
Refers to New Zealand’s Head of State His Majesty King Charles III. Technically Government properties are owned by the Crown.
Wastewater
The water from sinks, toilets, showers, washing machines and dishwashers.
Wastewater treatment plant
Usually owned by Councils, wastewater treatment plants clean wastewater so it can be returned to the environment.
