From January 2023 Toitū Te Whenua Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) will take on responsibility for managing the NZ Localities dataset.
Our aim is to bring together the current Fire and Emergency New Zealand's NZ Localities dataset and the New Zealand Geographic Board's Gazetteer, in a single suburbs and localities dataset for all New Zealand.
This will replace the Fire and Emergency NZ Localities dataset currently available from the LINZ Data Service:

It will continue to cover the New Zealand mainland, Stewart Island/Rakiura and offshore islands, as well as bays, lakes and inland islands.
Over the coming months we will develop a pilot new dataset to trial with our customers. To begin, we’d like to understand how you work with the current NZ Localities data. We have developed a survey to gather your feedback. The current NZ Localities dataset will remain in place until the pilot ends.
If you use the Fire and Emergency NZ Localities data, please take five to ten minutes to the survey. It is anonymous and the information we gather will only be used to support this project.
