Ngā Pou Taunaha o Aoteatoa New Zealand Geographic Board announces it is adopting five existing undersea feature names as official, amending three official place names and discontinuing three trig names. 

The five adopted existing undersea feature names are: 

  • East Chatham Gap, near Chatham Islands. 
  • Fantail Terrace, near Cape Reinga / Te Rerenga Wairua
  • Le Rose Fracture Zone, near Scott Island in the Southern Ocean
  • Le Petit Prince Fracture Zone, near Scott Island in the Southern Ocean. 
  • Le Renard Fracture Zone, near Scott Island in the Southern Ocean. 

The three amended official place names are: 

  • Moana Uta (West Jacket Arm) Marine Reserve amended to Moana Uta (Wet Jacket Arm) Marine Reserve in Fiordland.
  • Evans Creek in Abel Tasman National Park, NZTopo50-BP25 954680 to 984712 amended to NZTopo50-BP25 954680 to 985705.
  • Murderers Rock east of Nelson, Historic site amended to Rock.

The three discontinued names are for trig stations which the Board no longer has naming jurisdiction over. 

They are:

  • Pohatuhaha in Ruahine Range, west of Hastings.
  • Tauherenikau north of Featherston.
  • Tawake Tohunga near Waiouru between Kaimanawa Mountains and Kaweka Range.
