Chatham Islands Geodetic Datum 1971 (CIGD1971) was the official geodetic datum used in the Chatham Islands from 1971. In 1981 the Chatham Islands Geodetic Datum 1979 (CIGD1979) superseded CIGD1971.
A geodetic datum is a reference system that defines how positions are represented. This includes:
- a coordinate system
- a reference ellipsoid
- additional models, such as a deformation model.
