Good addressing practice helps to ensure that roads and properties can be easily identified, located and readily accessed by emergency, public and utility services, and providers of goods and services.
LINZ works closely with Territorial Authorities to ensure the quality of allocated addresses using the Addressing Standard AS/NZS4819 Rural and urban addressing, which was released in 2011.
The AS/NZS4819 Standard deals with the vast majority of addressing requirements but does not take adequate account of in-fill developments, which are often constrained by prior addressing practices.
In line with good regulatory stewardship and practice, the Office of the Surveyor-General has drafted guidelines to provide guidance to TAs on allocating addresses for in-fill developments.
Territorial Authorities, developers and members of the public were invited to provide feedback on the guidelines so that they are as clear and useful as possible.
