The proposal was to make Te Tōangaroa the official name of an unnamed area on Auckland’s waterfront. The proposed new name will partially cover the Auckland CBD, Parnell and Mechanics Bay, but will not replace them.

At its hui on 30 April 2024 the Board considered this report, which is updated with the Board’s decision. The proposal was notified for one month so that the public could make submissions supporting or objecting to the proposal.
At its hui on 15 October 2024 the Board considered this report, which is updated with the Board’s decision. Because the Board didn’t agree with the objecting submissions received for Te Tōangaroa, it requested the Minister for Land Information to make the final determination.
