Cultivation

10 years with maintenance rights

The Commissioner’s delegate has determined that granting consent to cultivate the proposed areas will have positive farming benefits and by complying with the above conditions will protect any inherent values present. Conditions have also been imposed to minimise possible adverse impacts of cultivating on the soil resource as well as keeping up with fertiliser applications to maintain soil structure and longevity of the development.

Consent is granted for cultivation by direct drilling, subject to the following conditions:

1. Consent is included for clearing isolated scrub bushes and an initial direct drilling to establish a ryecorn crop followed by further direct drilling to establish a lucerne and cocksfoot pasture; and
2. Steeper sidlings that contain areas of indigenous shrubland are excluded; and
3. An area of at least 3m either side of Young Hill Creek is excluded; and
4. Cultivation is limited to direct drilling; and
5. Areas sprayed are to be direct drilled as soon as possible to minimise any risk to the soil; and
6. Cultivated areas are to be maintained with adequate topdressing with a phosphatic or equivalent fertiliser; and
7. Not more than two forage crops are to be grown in any cultivation cycle; and
8. Repeat cultivation cycles are not to occur at intervals of less than eight years.
9. The Lessee shall keep records of the areas cultivated annually and provide these records to the Commissioner of Crown Lands or its delegate if requested.

The Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 provides that permission to undertake the activity may still be needed under other enactments.
