What was proposed?

The proposal was to change the name Abbots Creek to Abbotts Creek, for the stream that flows east from Remutaka Pass to Featherston, in south Wairarapa.

Outcome

No change to the current official name.

The Minister for Land Information rejected the proposal on 3 December 2024. The official name of the creek remains as Abbots Creek (Official by New Zealand Gazette Notice No. 2019-In5662).

At its hui on 30 April 2024 the Board considered this report on the proposal, which is updated with the Board’s decision. The proposal was notified for one month so that the public could make submissions supporting or objecting to the name change.

At its hui on 15 October 2024 the Board considered this submission report, which is updated with the Board’s decision. Because the Board didn’t agree with the objecting submissions received, it requested the Minister for Land Information to make the final determination.
