Geodetic marks

Our geodetic mark data can be accessed and downloaded from the LINZ Geodetic Database, LINZ Data Service or KML Service.

The LINZ Geodetic Marks app allows users to navigate to geodetic marks, access mark details, submit updated mark photos, and find key non-boundary marks that may need to be protected when engaging in earthworks.

To download all geodetic mark data, use the LINZ Data Service.

Geodetic mark information is available in KML format. This enables geodetic data to be viewed spatially in 3D visualisation software such as Google Earth.

There are thousands of survey marks in New Zealand. Many are below the ground so most of us never see them. Survey marks help in the surveying of property boundaries, as well as engineering, roading, mapping and measuring the position of land, sea and infrastructure.

We welcome feedback about the safety, maintenance, coordinate or height information of any survey mark. Let us know if marks have been damaged or destroyed, and suggest where new marks should be installed.
